Deposit safes: plan deposits and retrieval separately

A deposit safe can separate depositing from retrieval. Compare your actual operating process with the product documentation.

Start with the handover process

Describe what will be deposited: envelopes, receipts or closed containers. Measure the largest intended format and check how often contents will be removed. Decide separately who may make deposits and who may open the main door. This turns a general search for a deposit slot into a requirement that can be clearly understood.

Assess the opening and protection separately

For deposit systems, the ECB-S accreditation scope includes EN 1143-2. A slot in the body alone does not demonstrate testing to this standard. Ask about the classification and its unambiguous connection to the system being offered. Do not transfer evidence for a closed safe to a version with a deposit opening without checking that it applies.

Three steps for daily operations

First, identify the items to be deposited, their frequency and the preferred collection intervals. Second, compare the opening, usable capacity and documented operation. Third, agree permissions, positioning and installation. Consider cover arrangements, shift changes and how operating problems will be handled. Ask for the intended procedures to be explained, without altering protective mechanisms through improvised modifications.

Record business requirements concisely

An initial enquiry needs only the size and type of deposited items, expected frequency, location and user roles. Exact cash holdings or internal collection times do not belong in a general first message. Discuss insurance and specific protection requirements through an appropriate consultation. Transport, positioning and anchoring then need to be described for the chosen system. The business safes shown here do not yet demonstrate a deposit function.

Check the process with a neutral sample

For a later practical trial, you can use empty envelopes or other valueless samples in the intended sizes. Check handling only in accordance with the operating instructions: is depositing straightforward, can the collection area be emptied comfortably, and is there enough working space in front of the door? Record questions about normal operation. Across several shifts, it should be clear who confirms collection and who is contacted if something goes wrong. These organisational decisions can be prepared before a supplier proposes a specific tested system for your needs.

Frequently asked questions

How do the deposit opening and main door differ?

Depositing and retrieval may involve different users and procedures. The specific design must establish which separation is possible.

Is a deposit slot a certificate?

No. Request evidence that applies to the complete system.

Which dimensions matter?

Check the deposit opening, the size of deposited items and usable collection space.

Can I modify an existing model?

Do not make changes without checking the manufacturer’s documentation and their effect on existing evidence.

Is there a deposit filter yet?

No. Without verified product attributes, such a filter would be misleading. Start with a requirements enquiry.
